Yeoh Tiong Lay, the honorary principal, is a Malaysian Chinese. His ancestral home is Dongbao Village, Jinning Township, Kinmen County. He was born in Klang, Malaysia in 1929.
Yeoh Tiong Lay founded YTL Corporation in 1955 and established a listed company in 1985, engaged in real estate, electricity, cement, water supply, hotels, tourism, information and transportation. In addition to Malaysia, its business markets include the United Kingdom, France, Japan, Australia, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore.
In addition to his successful career, he also spared no effort in social welfare work, and his support for Chinese education was highly praised and respected by the Chinese community. At the same time, it has also made great contributions to the Malaysian government’s poverty alleviation and public welfare undertakings.
Yeoh Tiong Lay was very supportive of the construction of his hometown Kinmen. He spent 15 million yuan to build a memorial hall for his late father in Dongbao Village and donated 5 million yuan to rebuild the ancestral temple. He is also very concerned about Kinmen's education and donated NT$20 million to KMIT to build professor dormitories. In 2010, KMIT was upgraded to the National Quemoy University, and another US$1 million was donated to adopt the Institute of Technology.
Yeoh Tiong Lay is modest, polite, very approachable, helpful, and enthusiastic about charity. He is very supportive of the education of the Chinese community in Malaysia. Today, as a celebrity in Malaysian society, Yong Tiong Lai is well-known for his affinity and charity and is approachable. His wife Tan Kai Yong fully supported her and played a key role in playing the role of a good wife.
Yeoh Tiong Lay's deeds in various aspects of business management, social welfare and education have been widely praised at home and abroad, and he can be regarded as a model of Chinese entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, destiny could not be violated, and he passed away on October 18, 2017.
